Clavicle fractures are quite common and occur in individuals of all ages. Most clavicle fractures occur in the shaft or middle portion of the bone. A direct blow over the shoulder, a fall on an outstretched arm, or a motor vehicle accident may also cause the clavicle bone to break. Maybe in 20 years it'll come back to haunt me (?) but the surgeon said it was mostly cosmetic at this point.Dr Stephanie Muh, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon, West Bloomfield, Detroit, Royal Oak, Farmington Hills, MI / Patient Info / Shoulder / Procedures / ORIF of the Clavicle Fractures ORIF of the Clavicle Fractures What is a Clavicle Fracture?Ī clavicle fracture refers to a broken collarbone and is a common injury associated with contact sports such as football and martial arts, as well as impact sports such as motor racing. I currently have zero pain, no loss of mobility, etc. I ride a little more in control now, as I have 2 bad shoulders, but my separated shoulder feels as strong as it did before.Īlso, had a consult with a orthopedic surgeon, and he told me that if the bone sticking out didn't phase me and had no ongoing pain, it wasn't a big deal to have repaired. After probably 2 months, I had little to no pain in the separated shoulder while riding. I still had aching pain in the dislocated shoulder 2 years later on long road rides. Honestly, the pain on the bike from the dislocation was WAY worse than the separation. It hurt, and made crunching noises that were disconcerting, but I did the PT for probably a month every day, and then tapered off. The ER doc had me start PT literally like days after the injury. I had dislocated other shoulder really badly in 2014, so I just repeated the physical therapy exercises from that injury on the separation. Started back on road rides, and then started adding gravel and easy MTB as time went by. I was back on the bike outside in 3 to 4 weeks? Prob a week after injury i was on the trainer.
